I don't know about how anybody else feels but with all the virus prone
spam that has been hitting this forum lately I'm not opening ANY
attachment I find here. So, I would prefer to see clues sent as a
message. Can you say, "cut and paste?" Funhog

I'm with Funhog on this one. No attachments for me. Naughty viruses just
spoil all the fun.

Funhog........ DITTO for G-Man one of
the Webmasters for the South and Mid Atlantic. I would like to insist that the
clues are in the body of the email. Keep your copy on Word or WordPerfect,
save one as a text only then do a cut and paste. "We" webmasters have to do that
very thing to build your LbNA Scroll clue page so it sure would make out life
easier if all the clue text was in the email...
Thanks FUNHOG for bringing that
up....

I'm sort of a know it all today I guess.
Anyway, you know you can turn off the distribution of attachments? The
Moderator has to do it. Go into
Group Settings, then EDIT Posting on the right side of thepage....Look for
Attachments on the list and then Select Discard attachments
Then no one will have to worry about attachments having viruses.

My thoughts on this are in the archives many times over. I may rehash
them on a web page later if I feel like it but don't feel like rehashing
them here.
The bottom line is this -
I'm philosophically against censoring attachments, but if a supermajority
(think in the 5/8 to 2/3 ballpark) of those with an opinion wants them
censored, discuss it, prove it, and it will be so. I will give added weight
to the opinions of old-timers who have been with the list as it is for a long
time. Since no one is chiming in in support of allowing attachments, it may
be a no-brainer.
(As an aside, I feel sending attachments to a mailing list is a poor way to
distribute content. Rather than send large word files or jpegs to 440 people,
consider using the upload file area, or creating a web site and posting links
to
this content. This saves alot of resources, and assures that people who don't
care about your content aren't paying the price to carry it).
(as another aside, consider using a mail program other than outlook. You will
get less worms and viruses, regardless of what this list decides to do, and
you will still have to deal with it even if the list decides to censor
attachments)
Cheers

Instead of "cut" and paste shouldn't you be
telling people to "copy" and paste? That's how I
usually put something in a text page.
