Just looking for feedback on this possible map
for a set of links to world regions.

Looks good, Dan. though when I click on any region I get a "404 Object Not
Found" message. But it's a very handsome, readable map.

The world map will certainly work for a frontend to world regional clue sets. A very good idea. Does Tiger or another site have national maps that we can pushpin letterbox locations in other nations like we do for our US boxes?

Hi Dan,

We received our package from you today. Thank you! Great timing too, we are
leaving for the Iowa trip with our corn stamp carved by Ginny. We will put
it in the state this weekend. We don't think we will get Nebraska in but be
assured we plan to get it this summer. I of course hope that we will have a
friend in letterboxing in Nebraska by then.

We have Kat Murphy here in KC that we will give some containers to for her
future box plantings as an encouragement.

Anyone going to Hawaii yet by the way?

Additionally I like the world map. Reminds me of Microsoft Flight
Simulator's map when tracking down an airport directory. It works great and
gets there quick.

Best regards,

Greg and Ginny

Not that I'm aware of. I think resources like that may open up
eventually. I'm always watching for such and would appreciate
hearing from anyone who may hear of other nations providing digital
maps free of charge. For those of you who don't know our U.S.
Census Bureau provides a free service that greatly helps the
mapping we do. I use it for all the state maps and quite a
few of the regional maps. There are other ways to do maps
but this way takes a lot of the drudgery out of it. I'm
really happy/thankful that they provide this service.

Bonnie, I should respond to your comment about the links not
working on the map at http://www.pclink.com/elf/world.htm
The reason they don't work is partly due to the above situation
and its partly due to the fact that there are many obstacles
to realizing "Letterboxing World" not the least of which is
the language barrier.

Eventually if we collaborate with our friends on the other
side of the pond this map could serve as a main link between
us and them. I think it's cool, something to give pause to.

And for the language barrier there's always this: Eventually
a person's profile may indicate their language. Then that
could be taken into account. In other words, if you are
english speaking you would get clues in english, if you are
french speaking you would get clues in French, etc. But that's
step 1478 and we're on step 12 or so. Nonetheless, its fun to
think about wild and great things that seem impossible.

Take care all. Thanks for your enthusiasm and your positive
comments.

Well, I'd be happy to volunteer if the group wants to scrape together the
$$$! :)

Hey Greg and Ginny:
Congrats on your soon-to-be-placed corn stamp!

If you need a scan of your stamp before you put it out, let me know
(anyone else as well). Its a mono scanner only, but I'm glad to help if
you want to have the stamp show up on the L_USA clue page.

Have a good weekend!
Erik

I think this map lweeok nice as well. It might do tohave it larger, as
it's a tough click for unsteady hands to hit Great Britian at this
scane. And, as GB is the birthplace, so to speak, ould it have its own
color?

Another thought that I had:
Would it make sense on the L-USA main page, to have a "Whats' New",
or, "New Letterboxes" page? Might be fun to give that extra bit of
publicity to any new efforts, in case a surfer coming to teh page was
not following the talk list to know about it.

Just a thought
Erik

Only if Bristol, Vermont (Prayer Rock), being the birthplace of
Letterboxing USA, gets its own color.

Well, I had been in the habit of doing that in emails somewhat. I was
out of commission for a week and a half though. I guess I would not
mind doing something like that on a web page. Do other people want to
see a what's new page? I assume it would highlight recently planted
letterboxes and the current discussions we are having on the list???

Oooooooooo, I'm REALLY likin' this idea. For those who have found all the
letter-boxes (if there are any such animals) that might be just the thing to
get them out on a new quest. For those who have found all the ones hidden in
NEARBY states, who knows...... one might just pop up in the state next-door.
And I DO know that SOMETIMES I don;t have time to read all my e-mail, and one
COULD pop up that I did not read the e-mail. Also, there MIGHT be people who
are not on this list who just check the home page occasionally. BESIDES, I
think the list of new letterboxes gives us a psychological boost to have all
50 states planted by 2000. Sort of a list that shows what we have
accomplished. I REALLY like this idea!!!

Hoggie (who THINKS she said that before)

With regard to a "What's New" page: I think this is generally a good idea
for any sort of Web site. It keeps people coming back, gives them a reason
to go back to your site. And of course, we always do have new information
and features on our site, so why not make it easy for people to find it?

That's my two cents...have a great weekend everybody!

Hi Erik,

How are you? Thanks for the above offer. We have a scanner here but we are
pretty computer illiterate but I will give it a try. We can usually to
PhotoStudio and save pictures of our stamps on floppy disc. Any suggestions
on how I would send it to you. Or for that fact all the stamps we now have
out (5)?

Thanks, Greg
