[L-USA] Re: logo

I appreciate the time put in to create the L-USA logo, but I'm stepping
in line with Susan and putting my vote in for something a little, uh,
less...

I was very taken with Adrian's design for the Dartmoor L-USA series. It
said "stamp" right away to me... can we steal that idea & modify it for
our needs? I would be happy to spend a little time on it if need be.

A little patting of my own back.... I just completed and installed a 16'
long mural in the local childrens' library. I painted a dragon reading
one of a pile of books. Near the back of the dragon, along with some
titles of my favorite childhood books is one that reads "Letterboxes of
Dartmoor."

Maybe it too much, but you know the postcards you see of individual states--block letters with topical images inside the letters and a drawing of the state in the background. Sort of campy, lots of fun.
Could a graphic like this work for our logo? Its so, so USA, and so much fun. (Maybe just the letters without the map in the background?)

I'm trying to picture this.

I anticipated that this feeling would arise. That was what I had in mind when
I did the embossed version... trying to tone it down a bit. I would be very
excited about throwing some other people's ideas on the table. This always
seems to result in something good.

Dan,
I think I know what Linda is talking about. Bruce Springsteen did something
similar on his first album cover...

Here's another example...

Anybody care to tackle this or any other logo ideas??

Put my vote down for something like this too. I wouldn't know how to pull it off, but I like the look. And having been born and raised abroad (Belgium), I can attest to the fact it's very "American"-looking, without being overly patriotic.

I'd love to see somebody give it a shot.

I gladly offer my artistic services in this endeavor.
Within a week or so, my schedule will be free...
for a little while anyway.

I have experience in digital illustration and
design.

Hi everybody. I've been away from my E-mail for a few days, so sorry
for the delay in responding to this topic. I hate to be negative but I
don't like this logo. Looks kinda right-wing or nationalistic.

Since letterboxing takes us outdoors, what about an image--something
very simple, like a line drawing--of a notable American outdoor scene?
Can you get something like that from a clip art source? With the words
Letterboxing USA over it in a smaller, simpler font?

Or how about the good old Statue of Liberty? Just a thought.

Bonnie

Would Mount Rushmoor be a suitable topic?

Yes! Der Mad Stamper's samples are exactly what I was thinking about. Thanks for the visual aid!
