It's a stamp that you carry - and share when you meet other letterboxers. You can have clues or not...or make the person do something to get the stamp. Like sing a song, or solve a puzzle, answer a question, etc. You can list the box on AQ as a traveler, and then at a gathering, wait until someone asks you for it.

I consider a Traveler and a Personal Traveler as one in the same

Personal Travellers (per wikipedia)
Much like a traditional box, but instead of being planted, the box
is kept with the creator at all times. If another boxer is met on the
trail or at a meet it is attainable if requested. In the US this box is
usually only attainable if the other letterboxer knows the password or
passphrase which is sometimes cryptic, sometimes straightforward,
sometimes almost non-existent, and sometimes silly.

As for the difference between a Traveler and a Traveller -- I'm stumped

They are also called "personal travelers" Here is the definition from AtlasQuest:

"Personal traveler: A special stamp a letterboxer carries, in addition to their signature stamp, but requires other letterboxers to say a secret code or do something special in order to acquire. To discuss personal travelers with other letterboxers, check out our Personal Traveler board."

I consider them a traveling letterbox and have a log book to go with with my traveler rubberstamp. Usually, to qualify for the traveler stamp, you answer a special question.

At gatherings, much of the activity centers around acquiring travelers.

Dartmoor letterboxers seem to be a little confused about this but they sometimes call a hitchhiker a traveller or a moving box and our hitchhiker they call an American cuckoo.
