Guns

From: Barefoot Lucy (barefootlucy@yahoo.com) | Date: 2005-06-25 20:17:11 UTC-07:00
I posted on the topic of guns earlier because it
seemed as though some folks were alarmed that one
letterboxer in my particular area carried a gun with
her on one occasion as she boxed with her young
children, and I hoped to point out that this would not
be considered unusual in our area since many people
carry guns as a part of their daily lives here. No
one would argue that guns can be very dangerous when
handled improperly, but there are lots of folks who
handle them safely and responsibly every day.

I'm sure this is quite a sensitive issue to many
folks, but really, it isn't relevant to letterboxing,
except as it relates to the fact that we are all
concerned about our own and each other's safety when
we are isolated in the woods.

I think the topic of being safe as we letterbox is a
great issue that needs to be discussed periodically.
If it would help us get back to the real topic this
revolves around, I'll apologize now for perpetuating
the topic of carrying a gun while letterboxing, but it
seemed as though we were getting away from what could
be a really good discussion and instead were going to
get sidetracked by questioning an individual's
judgment.

Lucy

I have to thank you Barefoot lucy for your support. The things you
said about our neck of the woods is so true. Just about everyone
around here has a concealed gun license. Most of the time when I
box I have another adult with me. On the day in question I did not
and it made me feel a little safer. However I never intended for
any discussion to occur from my reply to Silver Eagle. I do not
normally carry a gun nor did we own a gun but about 2 1/2 months ago
a man walked into my neighbors house at 2:30 in the afternoon and
attacked her. I was at home with my garage door open and my doors
unlocked as were most of the neighbors that live around us. After
this my husband purchased a pistol to keep at our home. Of course
this individual was let out of jail due to overcrowding and I sure
feel better knowing if someone got in my home I would have at least
a chance. However due to the sparks flying I will definitely invest
in some pepper spray to take with me if needed from now on. Once
again thanks Lucy for enlightening people of our area and I just
basically wanted to remind everyone to please be aware of your
surroundings and be safe.

I think we've just about had enough of this thread about guns.
Isn't this a letterboxing themed discussion group?
In this violent society, many look to this list for solace and comfort
- away from the norm of the day. So . . .

Let's return to letterboxing and enough with the guns.

Personally, I carry an activist judge when I letterbox.

I should get some pepper spray - never occurred to me, it certainly weighs less.

I think we should all be carrying guns. Even better yet, let's all
shoot first and .... and well, hell with asking questions, let's all
just shoot first, let God sort them out is what I say. Maybe with
some luck, one of us will wing that LetterBoxing Crook guy. At the
very least we will thin the pack. The weaker, slower, folk will
eventually be weaded out and we will all be better off in the end.
I'm sawing off a shotgun in the celler as we speak.

That's funny. You think someone would have thought of
that earlier.
