I'm going to be in Amherst, MASS in a week or so and am wondering if there
are any letterboxes near by for which I could search? Thanks. Jody

Jody, you are in for a TREAT! Go to the terrific Letterboxing North
America Web site http://www.letterboxing.org and click on the state
of Massachusetts. You will have a very busy time searching for all
those boxes!

Have fun!

Jody....   Have you visited   www.letterboxing.org  ?????  All you have to do is take a look at the Mass map and select any boxes that will be near your visit.... then print the clues and away you go...

Jody, Amherst is Bonnie Sennot country! Her letterboxes are
wonderfully creative and there couldn't be a better time of year to
enjoy the Berkshire hills in the Connecticut River Valley. Enjoy!

Jody, clues for lots of Massachusetts letterboxes, including quite a
few in and around Amherst, are here:

http://www.crocker.com/~bsennott/letterbox.html

Email me directly if you have questions about any of them.

Thanks for kind words, Jay! BTW, I had some trouble replying to this
post, so if two replies make it to the list, my apologies

Did you receive my clues from "Silly Siblings" for the Danielson Ct.
letterbox?

From: (sleeepinin@aol.com) | Date: 2002-06-23 00:05:47 UTC-04:00
I had posted my clues and sort of expected something different. Instead of
finding my box on the letterboxing site, I got lots of LbNa mail. Will our
box get on the map? IS this like an LB chat network?

Sorry, I'm new to this. My kids and I are very excited in participating,
especially since we travel a lot and get many opportunities to hike.

Thanks, E

Typicaly it takes the webmasters a few days to get the clues up on the site.

This is a LNBA "chat network", and the *right* place to be posting new
letterbox clues etc.

If the number of messages from this list is higher then you prefer to
receive, I suggest changing your Yahoo Groups setting to Daily Digest...
this will lump all of the day's mailing list messages into one message (per
day).

Also, people will often post questions or comments direcly to you rather
then spam the list (tho personaly I dont mind this kind of "good" spam).

Hope this helps. =)

While I'm at it....

Just FYI, it's best when posting a new box to start your subject with the
state abbrevation. IE:

WA - New Seattle Box

This lets people quickly brouse thru posts. You want to have the state at
the beginning, so it doesnt get chopped in the subject line.

Just a tip from someone still a bit damp behind the ears. ;-)

Hey there, good question on timing for uploads of box clues. I posted one with a mystery location a couple of weeks ago and I am not sure if it has been posted yet but then again I am not sure where they would post it as I did not indicate a state as it is a mystery...so where do we put those ones??? or should I give the state away?

I have just posted your new clues to letterboxing.org. Please check them out at  http://www.letterboxing.org/pa/e_k.htm and see everything is ok. I can make the title for your page anything you want so just let me know if you are going to use a letterboxing alias and want it changed...  Any future box clues will be added to that page.

Why aren't I getting messages to my Email? Did I do something wrong?
We just became aware of this hobby and it's right up our alley. There
was an article in the Sunday paper and we are just getting organized.
Have to make a stamp, which sounds challenging! The article piqued
our interest and hopefully others as well. Newbies Wayne and Lynn

Don't take it personaly! Some folks (like me) save up
and reply to a bunch of stuff at one time. Also you
might have more luck on the newbie site. We are kind
and gentle on the newbie site. Great to here you are
going to try carving, it's always nice to find a hand
carved stamp as a sig or in a box.

Hi, we must have missed your earlier messages. probably out wandering
the Upstate NY countryside adding images to our log books. I don't know
where in Upstate you're based , I'm in the Rochester area, but you might
want to consider coming to the gathering in Gasport on 11/13 from 11 - 6
pm. I'm certainly looking forward to it. While you're deciding on a
personal stamp, get out there and find boxes even if you have to hand
draw something in the log book. If you're in the Buffalo (Snyder) area
be sure to find "Faith, Hope & Patience" It's a stamp lovingly carved
and the prayer request was not too much to ask.
Anyway, welcome to a fun sport. You're getting into it at a beautiful
time of year. I hope to see you on the 13th.

Re: question

From: m borgnaes (mborgnaes@yahoo.com) | Date: 2006-11-01 14:18:41 UTC-08:00
Question?
My idea is to collect my stamps on 3 1/2 X 5 index cards that I can
put in am album as opposed to carring around a journal with ALL
my "found" stampings in it... I would record info about the hunt,
date, location, etc. on the card next to the stamp... What is the
community thought on this?
TY all.
Hope to meet a few of you on the trail... from the listings, I know
a few of you already from the caching community in my area (N
Chicago suburbs)
eyesseit... also my profile name on GC.com

I stamp mine on 4x6 cards...and use 4x6 photo almums for my logbook. not only do I make sure I get a "good first impression", I never run the risk of losing more than the stamps I have collected on that particular day...because when I get home I put them in my book. I'll never lose my book, either, or accidentally drop it in the lake, or...whatever.

I have one photo album with two sleeves on each page I use for my logbook...I keep all plants, finds, exchanges, etc in it...and I can also put in 4x6 photos taken along the way. I have another album that has one sleve per page...I use it for what I call my "proof set". A copy of every stampo I ever carved is in there, in case I have to re-carve for some odd reason, I have the image. (I put the image in the other ebook when it's planted, also)

donutz716,

You may be remembering a link that I think was on the map page that said
"how many boxes in each state" or something to that affect. I think that was
removed some time ago.

thanks a bunch.

could be interesting, as maine is a big place, with a bit of
everything - trees, ocean, rock walls, you name it. and of course
the tourists that give tourists a bad name :( with the four wheelers.

if i can find time off from the pow wows, i'll have to try and look.
or maybe one will be near a pow wow. that really would be fun.

o.k. i now know what geo-caching is. and i think i understand letter
boxing.

here's what i'd like - a group that does the searching of clues (like
letterboxing) but with the fun of prizes (when you find the box, you
take one from the owner of the box, and then leave them one of yours).
is there such a thing? just curious.

and trying to start a new topic instead needles (check amazon.com, for
gosh sake) or cyber slamming (some people are just jerks. don't
encourge them, and they get bored and go away. that's what the delete
key is for)

Geocaching.com has caches known as Letterbox-hybrids. These are
regular geocaches,(logbook and prizes) as well as letterboxes with a
separate book and a stamp. I've found several of these but they are
rarely listed o either AQ or LBNA.

You might be interested in Cistes. It's the mix of letterboxing
(directions) and geocaching (trinkets) that you're interested in.

There's an article about it at:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/main.jhtml?view=DETAILS&grid=&xml=/tra\
vel/2007/07/14/et-france-treasure-114.xml

and the website/database is available at:

http://www.cistes.net/index.php
(click on the English Version graphic at the top right of the screen
(this database is based in France but there are a few North American
boxes on the site))

BTW, letterbox hybrids on geocaching.com do not have to include
trinkets. None of mine do. I prefer to omit trinkets because I think it
could confuse the finder and perhaps increase the chance that the stamp
gets taken inadvertently.

BTW if you're interested in finding letterbox hybrids in your area go to
the advanced search page: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx
On the "All Geocaches" drop menu, choose -Letterbox Hybrids
Then type in your postal code in the postal code box.

Some letterbox hybrid hiders post the coordinates to the trailhead or
parking area and then give directions from there to the box, so a GPS
unit really isn't necessary.

that could be fun. anyone willing to help me run an adults only
(just to try and keep the pesky kids from tearing up stuff) site and
do this? i need the help of running the site, because i'm only on
line once a week. or else everyone would just have to patient.
what do you think?

He now goes by the trail name Zen Hunter. You can contact him through AQ, where he is listed as logging in today.

Cheers, Jiggs
